Apply for a Blue Badge

New legislation has been passed, which came into effect on 30 August 2019, to extend the Blue Badge Scheme to people with hidden and non-physical disabilities.

Blue badge allows people with severe mobility problems to park close to their destination, as a driver or passenger. Some websites offer help with applying but they may charge for this service. To avoid paying extra, apply through gov.uk:

What happens after you apply

You will have to pay a fee of £10 if your application is successful.

It may take up to 8 weeks to process your application once we have received a fully completed application form and all the relevant documentation.

If you do not meet the automatic criteria, we may contact you to arrange an assessment. Depending on your circumstances, decisions can take longer.

Renew your badge

You do not have to contact us to renew your Blue badge. We’ll write to you about 8 weeks before it expires. Usually the letter will say we have done all the checks and you have to pay the £10 renewal fee.

Pay for a Blue badge

You will then be sent a new Blue badge. In some cases we may ask you to send us additional information.

Unsuccessful applications

You can appeal the decision in writing if you applied within the last three months.

You must include your reasons for appeal. You can include additional evidence of your worsening health condition from a health care professional in support of your appeal.

We will review and respond with reasons for our decision within 21 days. If your application is unsuccessful, you can re-apply after six months.

Lost or stolen badges

Lost or stolen badges

You must report it to the police as soon as possible using the 101 non-emergency number. They will give you a reference number. To get a replacement, send the police reference to us along with your lost or stolen Blue badge form (PDF). There is a re-issue charge of £10. Your replacement will last until the expiry date of the original badge. 

If you no longer use your badge

Badges should be returned to us to stop them being used illegally. 

Return if: 

  • it has expired 
  • you are no longer eligible for a badge
  • you have found the badge you thought was lost or stolen (return the original)
  • it is so damaged or faded that the you cannot read the details on it
  • you no longer need it 
  • you have moved out of Camden and have a badge from another Council
  • the badge holder dies
