Keeping your home warm and comfortable can be difficult especially if you are worried about high energy bills. Our freephone Green Camden Helpline can give free advice and tips to help you keep well and warm in your home . We can check eligibility for any grants, services or discounts on your utility bills. We can also give advice on what to do if you are in fuel debt.

Well and Warm service

Camden’s Well and Warm service provides free home energy advice visits to help make your home warmer, more comfortable and reduce energy bills. The visit includes tailor made energy efficiency advice and free installation of small energy saving measures.

In addition, an in-home WISH+ assessment is offered to help connect you to a wide range of health and wellbeing services. This includes the handy person service and private sector energy efficiency grants should they be required.

Do you qualify?

Well and Warm visits are available to Camden residents, whether council tenant, home-owner, private tenant or housing association, who reach the following criteria. Are in receipt of benefits (not including child benefit) and one of the following:

  • Aged 60 or over, or
  • Have a long-term illness, or
  • Have a disability, or
  • Have a child under five (or are pregnant), or
  • Have a child under 16 with a disability or suffering a long-term illness, or
  • Have a child under 16 and in receipt of child tax credit

Grants for homeowners and private tenants

Our Warmer Cheaper Greener programme provides a wide range of grants to homeowners, private tenants and landlords to help make their homes more energy efficient. There are three levels available:

Gold grant – up to the value of £7,000

Assistance for the installation and maintenance of energy efficiency measures which directly improve health, safety and well-being. In deciding whether other works are eligible, the whole life cost benefit of the works will be considered.

You qualify if you:

  • Are an assured, regulated or private tenant and have occupied your home for more than 10 years (and have landlord permission) or;
  • Are an owner-occupier and have occupied your home for more than 10 years and are in receipt of an approved benefit (for more than 6 months) or;
  • Have children aged 18 or under in full-time education living in household with a total household income of less that £25,000

Silver grant – up to the value of £3,000 (plus top up of up to £1,000 if external wall insulation installed)

Assistance to help those who cannot afford to install energy efficiency measures, who are aged 70 years or over (and partner is 65 years or older), or low income families with a child under 18 in full time education.
You qualify if you:

  • Low household income and are 70 years or over, or have a child under 18 in full time education AND
  • Are an assured, regulated or private tenant and have occupied your home for more than 10 years (and have landlord permission) or;
  • Are an owner occupier and have occupied your home for more than 10 years and are in receipt of an approved benefit (for more than 6 months)

Bronze grant – up to the value of £1,000

Assistance to help those who cannot otherwise afford to pay for measures listed below:
Repairs to central heating system where warranty has expired or parts aren’t covered
Loft insulation, including provision of insulated hatch
You qualify if you:

  • Are an assured, regulated or private tenant and have occupied your home for more than 10 years (and have landlord permission) or;
  • Are an owner-occupier and have occupied your home for more than 10 years and are in receipt of an approved benefit (for more than 6 months) or;
  • Have children aged 18 or under in full-time education living in household with a total household income of less that £25,000

Grants for Landlords

Our Landlord Grant scheme assists private landlords in the installation of improved heating and insulation up to the value of £15,000. Measures include:

  • Loft insulation, an insulating jacket for hot water tanks or draught proofing only if in conjunction with another measure below:
  • Insulation of a flat roof above habitable rooms
  • Insulation of external cavity walls
  • Insulation of external solid walls
  • Floor insulation for rooms above an unheated void.
  • Zoning of existing gas central heating for individual units of accommodation

The maximum grant limit will be increased when at the completion of works the EPC shows the dwelling has achieved the following ratings, this shall apply only where there is an increase in the rating. No grant enhancement will be given if the dwelling/s have achieved these ratings prior to works been carried out. This only applies to properties rated D, E or F prior to works commencing.

A – 25%
B – 15%
C – 10%

You qualify if you are:

  • A member of the Accredited Landlord Scheme
  • Letting the property on a shorthold tenancy, statutory tenancy or licence
  • Intending to rent the property for the next 3 years

Camden climate fund

The Camden Climate Fund provides grants of up to 50% of costs to install renewable energy systems and make energy efficiency improvements to homes, businesses and community spaces.
