Building a community as a student in Camden
University is about more than studying. Getting involved in your local community and meeting new people can help you feel happier, more connected, and supported.
There are lots of opportunities to try new things and meet people to help make Camden feel like home. There’s also mental health and wellbeing support available.

Support to make friends
SOAS and UCL have advice for everyone about making friends at university.
Student Minds also has information and advice on friendships and social life at university.
If you want help connecting with other people, a social prescriber can support you in finding activities, groups and opportunities that match your interests. They can also help you access other support and advice you may need.
If you're under 25 and study in Camden, you can access social prescribing support through The Hive. If you're aged 18 or over, you can refer yourself to Community Links.
Mental health and wellbeing
University brings new challenges and pressures – including feelings of loneliness.
Feeling lonely at university is more common than many people realise. In fact, 92% of students say they have felt lonely at least once during the academic year.
It’s normal to feel lonely sometimes. But help is available if it’s affecting your mental health or you’re concerned about someone else:
- speak with your GP. If you aren’t already registered with one, find a GP near you
- contact NHS Camden Talking Therapies for free, confidential mental health support
- speak to your university's student support services
- visit University of London’s website for guidance on seeking support while staying in Halls of Residence
- download Soluna, the free mental wellbeing app by Kooth with a range of wellness services for young people up to age 25
- boost your wellbeing with the University of London’s Virtual Wellbeing Pit Stop, including games, journal prompts, podcasts and much more
