If you are a Camden tenant you may wish to take out an insurance policy to protect the contents of your home.
The Council does not insure tenants’ furniture, belongings or decorations against water damage, theft, vandalism and other household risks. This means that if you are not insured and the contents of your home are damaged, you may have to pay for the repair or replacement of your belongings and decorations, so it is a good idea to have some form of insurance.
How can you insure your home?
You may wish to make your own insurance arrangements, or you can contact your ward housing team to find out about an arrangement which Camden has with AIlianz Insurance plc.
Allianz runs a scheme that allows tenants to pay their insurance premiums weekly, along with the rent. All you have to do is decide how much you want to be insured for, based on the value of your household contents. Allianz will then write and tell you how much to pay each week. You can simply pay this sum to Camden at the same time as you pay your rent.
You must keep up to date with payments. If you fall behind, the insurance policy will be cancelled.
Note that you cannot get housing benefit on insurance premiums.
