Holmes Road

In December 2010 we adopted a 15 year Community Investment Programme (CIP) to generate extra funding. This was to be able to invest in schools, homes and community facilities.

In April 2011, Cabinet approved a strategy for homeless hostel sites that involved:

  • the conversion of the Holmes Road and Mount Pleasant hostels into modern studio accommodation. This is for single homeless people with support needs
  • the conversion of the Parker House hostel into residential accommodation. There are also homes for sale to provide cross subsidy for the new studios
  • a contribution to the creation of affordable homes and investment in council homes through the Better Homes programme.

The buildings, originally part of a workhouse, will become a modern facility for single homeless people with support needs. Residents will be supported to acquire the skills and confidence to move on to independent living. There will be 59 units of modern en suite studio accommodation and training rooms.

The scheme is part funded by GLA grant.

In July 2016, the scheme was the Overall Winner in the New London Architecture Awards. The scheme is due to be completed in May 2019.
