Rent a garage on a housing estate
You can apply to rent a garage on a housing estate to store your car or belongings.
You should not store anything that may be a fire risk.
Check if you can apply
If you're a council tenant, you should check your tenancy conditions to see if you‘re eligible. You cannot rent a garage if you're in rent arrears.
If you're a leaseholder, you cannot rent a garage if you have service charge arrears.
If a tenant management organisation (TMO) manages your estate, you need to apply to them directly.
How we prioritise applications
There are limited garages on our housing estates and we prioritise applications in this order:
- Blue Badge holders living on the estate
- tenants and leaseholders living on the estate
- Blue Badge holders on neighbouring estates
- tenants and leaseholders on neighbouring estates
- council staff, Business and non-Camden residents
Temporary closure of the waiting list
We have temporarily closed the waiting list for garages while we process existing applications.
The application form will be available again shortly.
Cost of renting a garage
Blue badge holders
Blue Badge holders do not pay for a garage. You only pay if you apply for a second garage.
Charges for council tenants
Council tenants are charged £18 per week for a garage. This is paid every Monday with your rent.
Council staff, business and non-Camden residents
Garage rental charges vary according to the estate. View weekly rent charges.
If you do not pay your rent
You must keep your payments up to date.
If you owe rent, you must contact the Housing Income team. They're here to help. Your rent statement includes the details of your Income Officer, or you can call 020 7974 4444.
We’ll give you written notice if you do not clear your debt. After clearing your debt, you’ll need to reapply for a garage.

If you want to give up your garage
Complete the form if you want to give up your garage. You must give us at least 7 days' notice.
Clearing your belongings
You must empty your garage before you return it to us. You can get rid of unwanted items by:
- recycling at the Regis Road recycling centre
- taking items to local charity shops

We may charge you if we need to clear your belongings.
Repairing your garage
Your garage must be in good condition when you return it to us. If your garage needs repairing, report the repair issue online.
Returning your keys
Keys must be returned to the estate parking team by post or in person at our 5 Pancras Square office. This must be done by midday on Monday after giving notice to avoid further rent charges.
If you're moving home as well, all keys and fobs can be returned to your Neighbourhood Housing Officer or our reception. You’ll be asked to complete a notice of vacation form.
