The Council consulted on the draft new Local Plan from 17 January to 13 March 2024. We are currently considering all the responses received and will publish an updated version of the Local Plan for further consultation in Spring 2025.
The draft new Camden Local Plan sets out our vision for future development in Camden for the next 15 years and includes the planning policies and site allocations to help achieve this. It identifies how many new homes and jobs are needed to support Camden's population, and where and how they should be provided. The Local Plan also has an important role in shaping how Camden's places look and feel, promoting inclusion, reducing inequality, enhancing the environment, tackling climate change and securing sustainable neighbourhoods.

Gypsy and Traveller Site Identification Study
The Council has a statutory obligation to plan for the needs of Gypsies and Travellers.
The adopted Camden Local Plan (2017) identifies a need for 16 additional traveller pitches to 2031, based on an assessment of need completed in 2014. The GLA are currently undertaking a London wide Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Needs Assessment, which will supercede our existing needs assessment, however we anticipate that the need for additional traveller pitches in Camden will remain the same.
To inform the preparation of the Loal Plan we have commissioned a Gypsy and Traveller Site Identification Study to identify Council owned sites which could potentially be allocated in the new Local Plan to meet the accommodation needs of Gypsies and Travellers. No decision has been made at this stage on which sites, if any, will be allocated in the Plan and further consideration of suitability is being undertaken.
This work to date has shown that the following sites are unavailble, and these sites will be excluded from any further consideration;
- Land between 23 and 25 Ravenshaw Street
- Athlone Street garages
- Garages at Spencer Rise
- Sanderson Close parking
- Former depot off Arlington Road
- Land south of 60 Bassett Street
- Northern part of Camley Street
- West Kentish Town Estate
