A small collection of films and videos
There is a small collection of films and videos. Videos may be viewed at the Centre by appointment only.
To make an appointment, contact the local studies and archives centre.
Films include:
- one of St Pancras Council in session,
- air raid precautions in the Second World War,
- others about the Borough of Hampstead including About Hampstead (1950s).
Videos include:
- Epitaph for an age (1974), about Highgate Cemetery
- Tolmers Square: beginning or end? (1975), a BBC Community Unit programme
- What do I remember now? (1985), describing Queen's Crescent Market, Kentish Town
- Arrobus '88 (1988), a film of an exhibition about Hampstead artist Sidney Arrobus; and the British Library at St Pancras (1991).
- Other videos include ones produced by Camden Council promoting and publicising local services during the 1980s and 1990s.
Some reel-to-reel tape recordings, including: the opening of Swiss Cottage Library 1964, and Holborn Library 1960. Gramophone records include George Bernard Shaw's acceptance of the Freedom of the Metropolitan Borough of St Pancras, 9th October 1946, and other recordings of his works.
Tape recordings of the Camden Oral History Project 1986-1987 and transcripts, where available.
King’s Cross Voices oral history archive
The voices in the archive include teachers, shopkeepers, publicans, policemen, students, squatters, housewives, social workers, builders, actors, artists, campaigners, politicians, prostitutes, factory workers, cleaners, office workers and, vitally, a whole range of occupations within the railway industry which has been at the heart of the area for over 150 years

The archives of voices (and additional information) is available at Camden Local Studies and Archives Centre, including the recordings and transcriptions of King's Cross Voices, are also available on public computers in all Camden Libraries. You may search the database for particular recordings, and also listen to either a 'snippet' or the whole interview.

Friday: 10am-5pm (by appointment only).
