Apply for help with school travel

Applying for help

Children living in Camden who have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan or statement of special educational needs, who meet the eligibility criteria set out in our Home to school travel policy, may be able to get help from the Council with their travel to and from school or college.

The parent or carer of any child with an EHC plan or statement, or who is currently undergoing a statutory assessment, is welcome to make an application for help with transport.

Generally, transport provision is considered for children who are of statutory school age and on the basis of the nearest appropriate school with a vacancy. However, we will consider all cases individually. You can apply for assistance by contacting the Special Educational Needs Team.

If your child does not have an EHC plan or statement of special educational needs, support with home-school transport may still be available from Camden’s school admissions team.

Consultation on draft 2019-20 travel policy - please respond by 7 June

This draft policy is written for parents and young people to explain the arrangements that Camden Council makes to support travel arrangements for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) up to the age of 25.

Support for eligible children and young people to develop independent travel skills helps enable them to take part in education, employment, life and leisure activities within  their communities. This draft policy covers travel arrangements for children and young people aged 5 to 16 and for young people with complex special educational needs and disabilities up to the age of 25, while they remain in education or training.

You are invited to send us your comments on the draft policy up until Friday 7 June 2019. Click on the links below for either the main survey or the easy-read version (the policies themselves can be viewed and downloaded here too):
