Holmes Road Hostel wins prestigious RIBA London award

Holmes Road Hostel has been honoured with a prestigious RIBA London award.

Since opening in 2020, the Holmes Road Hostel has provided safe and secure accommodation for Camden residents experiencing homelessness.

Built through the Community Investment Programme, the hostel provides modern en-suite studios and training rooms for single homeless residents with support needs. These modern facilities are key to providing the best possible pathway to independent living, providing a place where our most vulnerable residents can access all the support and training they need to learn skills, build confidence again and get back into independent living.

The scheme has now been recognised at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA winning a prestigious 2021 RIBA London awards. You can read more about the win here.

Cllr Danny Beales, Cabinet Member for Investing in Communities, Culture and an Inclusive Economy said: “It is great Holmes Road Hostel and other council building projects have been recognised at the RIBA London awards. Since opening in 2020, Holmes Road Hostel has provided safe and secure accommodation for our residents experiencing homelessness. The modern facilities at Holmes Road allow its residents to build confidence again and get back to independent living, while accessing support and training.

It’s a really important part of our housing offer for residents, along with the brand new council homes we’re building and our “Camden Living” homes - homes offered at significantly reduced rents to help people already living and working in Camden to be able to continue to afford to live here.”

The hostel forms part of Camden’s commitment to upgrade our homeless facilities and complements the Mount Pleasant Hostel which was opened in 2015. These developments demonstrate our commitment to building new homes across all forms of tenure.
