Greener homes for Camden

Residents on the Agar Grove estate have recently moved into the second phase of new council homes - these meet the highest possible green standards.

The new homes at Agar Grove have recently passed a set of air pressure tests to ensure they meet the Passivhaus standard, meaning residents will be moving into buildings designed to use a very low amount of heating and reduce carbon emissions at the same time.

The Passivhaus standard works by using a combination of high levels of insulation, triple-glazed windows and an innovative heat recovery ventilation system (MVHR). It aims to provide:

  1. A comfortable home with low energy use
  2. Reduced CO2 emissions for more sustainable and environmentally friendly living
  3. Heating bills reduced by up to 75%
  4. No draughts, condensation or mould, and good mechanical ventilation all year round
  5. Efficient lighting and appliances selected to further reduce energy consumption.

A number of residents moved into their new homes in February 2021, these homes form part of the next phase of the regeneration project, which comprises three blocks, 34 council homes, 23 homes for sale to help pay for the new council homes, a café and two, new public squares.

Key facts

We’re planning to build over 500 homes on the Agar Grove estate. The regeneration of the estate will see the demolition of 112 low rise dwellings and refurbishment of 137 existing properties in Lulworth Tower, an 18-storey block.

In their place, 507 new homes will be created to much higher standards of design, space and environmental sustainability as well as an increase in community and commercial space.
