Laamiga Trustee - Mandekh Hussein

Mandekh Hussein is a longstanding mentor and Trustee for Laamiga, a Camden and Islington based charity providing mentoring and training opportunities for black and minority ethnic women from migrant and refugee backgrounds.

Mandekh is the strategic lead for communications and marketing for Laamiga. She ensures that we are able to share the amazing stories of determination and resilience from the women Laamiga supports to raise awareness of the challenges they face. As a mentor for Laamiga, Mandekh works 1-2-1 with women, building connections with our beneficiaries to help them identify and work towards their personal goals.

In addition to her work at Laamiga, Mandekh is a Senior Lecturer and Programmе Dirеctor for the BASc Global Challеngеs at Brunеl University London. Her commitment to experiential learning has meant that she is able to include her students in her ongoing UK and international projects focused on addressing health and educational inequities in Colombia, Zambia and Liberia.

As a practitioner, Mandekh centres her work on transformational knowledge-sharing and exchange opportunities underpinned by a commitment to disrupting and dismantling structures that reinforce oppression and fragmentation.

Mandekh led the development of Laamiga's latest strategy, setting the future direction and vision for our small charity. Central to this is a focus on Camden-based partnerships and improving support in the borough.

As a mentor, she is committed to enabling and equipping individuals and communities with the resources, skills and opportunities to lead change. A notable experience saw a mentee create a travel social media page (@JetoffwithJazz on Instagram).

Mandekh envisions a future where the intrinsic strength and potential of women of minority ethnic, migrant, and refugee backgrounds are fully recognised and nurtured. Her aspiration is not just for individual achievement but for a transformative impact that encourages an inclusive, supportive, and engaged community where every woman is empowered to lead change and inspire others, reflecting a future built on the values of equity, diversity, and collective empowerment.

"True justice means crafting a world where women's dreams are not just possible but within reach. It demands our collective action, compassion, and courage to transform vision into reality for every woman, everywhere."
