Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Carer - Kanchan Pandya

One of four founder members of the Henna Asian Women’s Group, this inspirational woman Kanchan, is 81 years old and of Indian origin, born in Tanzania.

Kanchan, co-founded Henna four decades ago with the intention of creating a natural home for South Asian women in the north of Camden. One that was sensitive to the challenges the community faced as well as their aspirations. Quite a rebellious notion back then.

Kanchan, continues to be actively involved in Henna’s groups and activities, participating in sessions throughout the week including events and exhibitions.

She is a member of the Henna Forum, the member-led group that is part of the decision-making process of the organisation. She encourages women to join the group, especially younger women and is very supportive and welcoming. She is always telling us that Henna is her second home.

Kanchan wants the next generation to take the baton forward, to be bold and limitless in advancing the needs and aspirations of all women.

She is the perfect example of a free spirit; someone who has faced the trials and tribulations of life but has always strived to move forward and stay strong. With an infectious sense of fun and humour, she is the heartbeat of the organisation.

Age is no deterrent to her activism, and she continues to be quite rebellious.
