Someone saved my life tonight - Ingrid

"Seven years and counting…. My name is Ingrid, and this coming September will be my seventh year with the ladies of West Hampstead Women’s Centre. After completing three years of group therapy, I was at a loss for what to do with myself. I had given up work as a PA / Legal Secretary to look after my adult special needs daughter who was having a tough time of it. Trying times indeed, I reached out to my GP who arranged for me to speak to their counsellor. Long story short, she gave me a list of places that offered activities that I could partake in and one of them was West Hampstead Women’s Centre. I made my way to the Centre the very same day and was met by a very friendly and welcoming lady at reception. After signing up for membership I learnt that I could also become a volunteer, so I leapt at the opportunity…and almost seven years later…here I am! 

"Elton John’s song, Someone Saved My Life Tonight springs to mind because had it not been for the continued and consistent kindness, graciousness and generosity of the staff and members alike, I would not be here. Facing a host of challenges along the way, the centre has become a stronghold in my life.  

"Having the opportunity to partake in some of the services on offer is a huge bonus too! I have had my creative juices stirred and made clothing, crafts, and soft furnishing in the sewing class. I also acquired new creative skills like Kumihimo, which is a Japanese artform of jewellery-making, and Natural Dyeing, creating beautiful…and original silk scarves.  

"I’ve shared delicious food, chats and lots of laughter, a sisterhood has been forged. Trust being the key to our bond. I have come to love the women at the centre like I would my family. Our friendship is truly valued, and I will be eternally grateful and thankful for their love and continued support."
