We are currently consulting on proposed changes to our gambling policy.
What this means
Our gambling policy enables us to regulate gambling and to minimise the risk of gambling related harm to our residents and visitors. It sets out how we expect all gambling premises in Camden to operate when providing gambling facilities such as betting services or gaming machines.
Approximately 50 premises are covered by this policy. Most of these are betting shops, with a handful of amusement arcades and existing casinos.
Camden is reviewing our Gambling Policy and we want to hear your views so that we can take them into account before we decide.
The changes we are proposing and would like your feedback on are:
- updated references to changes in the law and national guidance
- strengthened policy requirements in respect of protecting children from being harmed or exploited by gambling
- updated information about adult gaming centres, family entertainment centres, and small society lotteries.
You can read a draft of the revised gambling policy and a summary of the proposed changes.
Due to the law, we cannot consider these types of comments:
- moral objections: We can’t consider comments based on a dislike of gambling, or a general view that it is undesirable to allow gambling premises in an area
- planning: Planning processes must remain separate from the licensing process. We can’t consider planning or building control permissions and/or any planning restrictions
- demand: We can’t consider issues around the demand or need for gambling premises in an area
Have your say
The consultation is open until 17 March 2023. If you’d like to look at the proposals and take part in it, please email your comments to licensing@camden.gov.uk
