Family Help in Camden
What is Family Help
Family Help is part of Camden’s Children’s Services. It is a team of people who support children, young people and families when they need extra help. People who work in this service include social workers, family help workers, domestic abuse specialists and they work closely with those who work in schools, health teams, voluntary groups, the police and child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) to support families together.
From the first time we meet you, we focus on getting to know you, understanding your family’s situation and talking about what support may help. We are keen to hear from you about what would help you and your family, so you are at the heart of decision making. Where appropriate, we may also involve people important to your child, such as wider family members or trusted adults, so plans can be made together.
Our aim is to understand what is happening for your family and agree with you what support could make a positive difference. We know contact from children’s services can feel worrying, so we will be open, clear and respectful from the start.
What happens when we contact you
When we get in touch, we will:
• Introduce ourselves and explain our role
• Tell you which service we are calling from
• Explain why we are contacting you
• Hear from you about what is important and what you think will help
• Explain the support that’s available to you
What support looks like
Support is different for every family. It may include help with routines, school attendance, repairing relationships, managing your worries, or connecting you with other services.
We might suggest a meeting with your family and friends to think about the best way to support your family. We may also offer a Family Group Conference where family members come together to make a plan for a child with support from an independent coordinator.
We will work with you to agree the support that feels right for your family. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us anytime at [email protected]
