Greener methods of travelling

The way we choose to travel can have a huge impact on the environment. The use of fuel in our cars not only contributes to climate change, it also impacts on local air quality, and can create dangerous levels of toxins in the air we all breathe. We have listed some resources on the following pages to help you use greener methods of travelling.

Walking

Walking keeps you healthy, saves you money and it’s good for the environment.  Below are some useful links to help you.

  • walkit.com helps you to plan your route and work out how many calories you’re burning
  • TfL’s new legible London scheme helps you find your way with clear and intuitive mapping.
  • Living Streets provides more information on walking to school
  • Join a Living Streets Local Group where you can meet your neighbours, become a more active member of your community and campaign to make your streets safer and more enjoyable for environmentally conscious pedestrians.

Cycling

Cycling is a fantastic way to save money, keep fit and to do your bit for the environment at the same time. Travelling by bike is a great way to explore the city, or to get to work or school. Please visit our cycling pages for more information.

Public transport

If you cannot walk or cycle, public transport is the next best thing, visit TFL to find out more about the routes closest to you

Join a car club

Car clubs are a great way to use a car without owning it. Not only will you reduce your carbon emissions, you don’t have to worry about servicing, maintenance, insurance or tax. To find a car club to join near you please visit Comouk or London Lift Share.
Anyone who has a valid driver's licence can become a member.
