ABRSM exams in Camden

We will be running ABRSM exams in the Summer term for children learning with Camden Music Service.

When? Saturday 20th July

Where? Camden School for Girls, Sandall Road, NW5 2DB.

Costs

  • Prep test Exam fee: £50, Facility fee: £7.50
  • Initial Grade Exam fee: £50, Facility fee: £7.50
  • Grade 1 Exam fee: £56, Facility fee: £7.50
  • Grade 2 Exam fee: £64, Facility fee: £7.50
  • Grade 3 Exam fee: £74, Facility fee: £10.50

  • Grade 6 Exam fee: £102, Facility fee: £15

Accompanist Needed for all exams except guitar and piano: £19

Subsidies

We may be able to offer a 50% discount on the cost of the exam to the following pupils -

  • pupils eligible for Free School Meals
  • children whose families receive Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support
  • children impacted by the sudden loss of parental employment or recent family break-up
  • children in receipt of Pupil Premium
  • looked After children

We are not able to offer a subsidy on the cost of the accompanist if needed.

What is the facility fee?

We have lots of pupils taking exams in Camden, so we arrange a private visit. This means - 

  • the exam is in Camden so it is easier for most people to get to
  • we choose the dates so you know when the exam will be in advance
  • we provide warm-up rooms so your child is ready to play in the exam
  • we arrange accompanists so you don't have to find one 

Hiring and staffing an exam venue is expensive so we are going to have to charge an extra facility fee for this service. 

Families who qualify for the subsidy above will not pay the extra facility fee.

What is an accompanist?

  • an accompanist will play the piano with your child in the exam
  • an accompanist is needed for all exams, except guitar and piano
  • we can provide an accompanist, or you can bring your own, but you need to let us know on the application form

What is a practice session?

  • We can arrange a practice session on a Saturday. Your child will be able to play with the accompanist and practise all parts of the exam.
  • We recommend you arrange a practice session, especially if your child is taking grade 5 or above.
  • You can choose a practice session on the application form. We will be in touch to arrange a date. The cost is £18.70 for 30 minutes. A subsidised rate is available to children eligible for Free School Meals and families in receipt of Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support.

What happens if I need to cancel?

  • If you need to withdraw your entry we will only be able to offer a refund up to 28 days before the exam. After this we will need to pay the ABRSM for the exam and will not be able to refund the fee.

ABRSM exams at a London Centre

You can still enter your child for an exam at a London Centre by visiting the ABRSM website

ABRSM theory exams

Theory exams for grade 1 to 5 now take place online. Grade 6 to 8 take place at a London Centre. You can enter your child for a theory exam through the ABRSM website
