Background and master plan
In December 2010 we set up a 15-year Community Investment Programme (CIP). This aims to make the most of council land and assets to give improved services and new housing.
As part of CIP we are redeveloping the Abbey area. This focuses on the area around the junction of Abbey Road and Belsize Road.
We started consulting with residents, ward councillors and community organisations about redevelopment of the Abbey area in 2008.
Planning permission was granted in November 2013 and the agreed development will provide:
- 241 new energy efficient homes: 102 council homes, 12 intermediate rent, 127 for private sale or rent
- New community and health facilities
- Improved open spaces, play spaces and public realm
- Improvements to the junction of Abbey Road and Belsize Road including pedestrian crossings.
The Abbey Area Development is being carried out in three phases.
