It is very important that we are all active and have access to physical activity opportunities to stay healthy throughout the year.

A free and low-cost physical activity guide has been created to help direct you to places and provide information of services within Camden where you can be active and exercise with your family and friends or even by yourself.

Virtual physical activity resources

To help children and young people stay happy and healthy, we've put together some of the best online resources we could find which can be completed in the comfort of your own home.

Below are some links to simple ideas and content to aid teachers, parents and carers in maintaining an active routine for children and young people. The resources will help support positive engagement, physical wellbeing, as well as enhancing concentration and cognition.

Ready Set Ride Resources - Cycling

British Cycling have designed resources to help children to learn to ride. Using an activity pack, online video resources to support parents, teachers and carers to teach children the essential skills needed to ride a bike while having fun playing together. Youth Sport Trust

Youth Sports Trust have created some easy to follow activity cards with fun challenges and PE activities for children at home. The aim is to help parents/carers bring the ideas to life within their home environments (inside and outside) – and can be adapted to suit a range of ages and abilities.

ukactive Kids x Nike: Move Crew  

ukactive and Nike have just launched Move Crew, a set of activity missions designed to help kids unlock their 60 minutes of daily recommended activity.

Move Crew was created using the expertise of primary school staff, elite athletes, children and coaches, to support school staff, parents and carers by setting daily activity missions which can be completed either at home with family members.
 

The Place  

Join The Place Partner Schools teachers for bite size classes for young people online. These are free, short classes for young people to get dancing and get creative from home. No prior dance experience needed, just lots of enthusiasm! These videos were created as part of The Place's Partner Schools programme. This video is recommended for primary school age.

Holiday activities 2024

Easter holiday activities take place between Monday 1 and Friday 12 April 2024.

All activities have been adapted to ensure that they meet government advice and provide a safe, positive and fun environment.

Booking activities

You must register in advance for all activities. Drop-in places are not available on the day. 

Once you have completed a registration form, your child will be automatically added to the register to attend the day of the session.

Enjoy access to swimming for £1 every day during the school holidays before 10am at Camden Better Leisure centres with Kids Swim for a Quid. 

This offer is available to all children under 16 years old. This offer is also available during the school term time every Saturday and Sunday before 10am.

Mini gymnastics holiday camp for ages 4 to 7 years 

Mini gymnastics sessions will help develop children’s basic FUNdamentals, agility, balance and co-ordination within a fun, enjoyable and safe environment.

Arsenal in the community football

Arsenal in the Community, in partnership with Camden Council and Young Camden, are delighted to offer a free football programme for local young people this Easter.

The sessions are open to both young girls and boys aged 8 to 14 years old and will focus on fun and enjoyable drills, rather than serious competitive tournaments. Come along, bring a friend, and enjoy a range of activities with Arsenal in The Community.

Fun Ways to Stay Active Together 

  • Sports England have provided information on some good ways you can stay active together as a family.
  • Camden has 10 Outdoor Gyms for you as well as your friends and family. A fun and different way to enjoy exercising for free, whilst getting the fresh air you need.
  • Wellbeing walks in Camden are free to attend and available all through the week. Get involved staying healthy by walking around Camden, meeting new friends and exploring your local area.

Term time activities

Term time activities for young people are held at at Talacre Community Sports Centre, run by the Camden Sports Development Team. These activities are available for children aged 3 to 17 years old.

Kids Swim for a Quid returns to Camden Better Leisure centres. Access swimming for £1 when attending a Swim for All session at one of the swimming pools at Camden Better Leisure. This offer is available to all children under 16 years old, every Saturday and Sunday before 10am. During the school holidays this offer is available every day before 10am. 

A Better Pay and Play membership or Full Better membership will be required to take part in the Kids Swim for a Quid offer.

Sports education and training programme

The Sports Education and Training Programme, is an amazing opportunity for young people aged 16-19 years old. It is a unique programme for young people who have a desire to pursue careers in sport and physical activity. 

Within the programme, young people have the chance to obtain a Level 2 certificate of activity leadership and/or a Level 3 diploma in Sports Development and/or BTEC Level 3 Sports Coaching extended certificate.  Many students in the programme progress to paid employment as sports coaches, play workers, fitness instructors and teaching assistants. 

Students have the opportunity to progress to university when enrolling on sports coaching and teaching related courses. 

In addition to these courses, the students have the opportunity to resit GCSE Maths and English or begin their functional skills in Maths and English Qualifications. To further enhance students CV's and knowledge we also organise and deliver national governing body coaching qualifications in various sports. The programme also offers work placements within Camden Sports Development Team or with local partners.

London Youth Games

The London Youth Games is an annual city wide event, with over 70,000 young people taking part every year.

Camden Sports Development Team, in partnership with sports clubs in Camden organise teams for the 30 sports available through the London Youth Games. These teams as a collective create Team Camden.

Children aged 7 to 18, who live or go to school in Camden are eligible to represent Team Camden. 

Starting in November, over the course of 9 months, children compete in a series of preliminary rounds and semi-finals, culminating in a fun packed finals weekend, at the National Sports Centre in Crystal Palace.

The games also caters to athletes of all abilities and includes several disability competitions Para Games Swimming, Football, Boccia and Athletics.

Gymnastics

Book a Recreational Gymnastics course

Camden Gymnastics Club, hosted by Talacre Community Sports Centre, is the only centre in central London with a purpose built gymnastics hall.

Our very popular gymnastics programme has over 1000 children aged 3 to 16 participating each week, in a variety of after school and weekend classes.

Gymnastics develops skills such as; flexibility, coordination, strength and balance, as well as a range of acrobatic skills. Children are instructed by our large team of British Gymnastics qualified coaches.  There are also opportunities for children who show potential to progress all the way up to the national level of training and competing.

Parent and Toddler Gymnastics

Our parent and toddler sessions are the perfect introduction to gymnastics for your children. There are two sessions that take place daily from Monday to Friday. These sessions provide a “free play” environment, supervised by parents with our gymnastics staff overseeing the session.

Have fun exploring with your children as they develop their abilities in safe environment.

You will need to book this session in advance on the Better App or online on the Better Leisure webpage before the session.

Friday Night Project

Friday Night Project (FNP) runs the 1st Friday of every month at Talacre Community Sports Centre, from 7.45pm to 10pm and is free to enter.

The Friday Night Project is an opportunity for 12 to 17 year olds to get active, socialise with their friends and have fun in a safe, supportive and neutral environment.

FNP is led by a team of friendly, trained staff and volunteers who have extensive experience in working with young people. The team offer a variety of activities at each event and work with our young people to create spaces be in active in their own ways.

Talacre Community Sports Centre offers the perfect setting for young people to interact and get active in a safe environment, with coaches and volunteers on hand to support and offer advice.

Typically, Friday Night Project offers activities such as:

Are you looking for a fun way for girls aged 5 to 11 to get involved with football? Then look no further. Weetabix Wildcats is the place to be, everyone is super awesome, from the friends you’ll meet to The FA qualified coaches and volunteers who deliver the sessions. 

Weetabix Wildcats is non-competitive football for girls who want to give it a try for the very first time or want to play with other girls their own age. Most importantly, Weetabix Wildcats is all about having loads of fun and meeting new amazing friends.

The Young Women and Girls Football Programme offers weekly training sessions created exclusively for girls aged 5 to 17 years old and we always welcome new participants.

The programme offers organised sessions in a fun and engaging environment, which focuses on developing player’s fundamental skills and creating the foundation for a lifelong love of football.

Camden Youth FC

Camden Youth FC is an England FA (Football Accredited) grassroots club that provides opportunities for girls Under 9's – Under 18's within the programme to progress and play competitively for a team in local leagues and competitions. There are four leagues; Capital Girls League, Regent's Park Youth League, Camden & Islington Youth League and Arsenal in The Community Girls League.

England Women and Girls Football

Following the success of the England Women's Football Team winning the Euro 22 Competition and runners up in the FIFA Womens World Cup in August 2023, England Football continue to encourage all young women and girls to get involved in becoming the next potential future England female football star.

Adult Gymnastics (16+)

Adult Gymnastics 

Camden welcome all adults  and young people (16 years old +) to try out and attend the fun and supportive adult gymnastics sessions that take place weekly. Classes are structured and run by qualified instructors. The classes consist of a warm up and basics on the floor. The class is then split up into groups to use as well as learn how to use the specific apparatus. The practicing of floor based skills, tumbling and trampolining will be apart of your session.

Please ensure you are fit and healthy to attend and let the instructor know if you have any concerns or injuries.

Adult Trampolining (16+)

Adult Trampolining 

The healthy heart pumping activity welcomes all. Camden Adult Trampolining sessions are available to adults and young people over 16 years old. 
Trampolining classes are structured and run by a qualified instructor. Take the opportunity to learn and develop fundamental trampoline skills in a safe and fun environment.

Please ensure you are fit and healthy to attend and let the instructor know if you have any concerns or injuries.

Days and Time: Mondays from 7.15pm to 8.45pm

Parent and Toddler Gymnastics (0 - 4 years old)

Our parent and toddler sessions are the perfect introduction to gymnastics for your children. There are two sessions that take place daily from Monday to Friday. These sessions provide a “free play” environment, supervised by parents with our gymnastics staff overseeing the session.

Have fun exploring with your children as they develop their abilities in safe environment.

You will need to book this session in advance on the Better App or online on the Better Leisure webpage before the session.

Parent and toddler gymnastics timetable

  • Session 1: Wednesday at 9.30am to 10.15am    
  • Session 2: Monday to Friday at 10:30am to 11:30am

Pre-school Gymnastics (3 - 4 years old)

The structured sessions provide an early introduction to gymnastics developing co-ordination, balance, flexibility skills and more. Children will experience a a range of gymnastic apparatus, including trampoline and other soft play equipment in a fun and safe environment. Sessions are led by our British Gymnastics qualified team. Each year children work towards achieving their first gymnastic badge in the summer term.

Your child must be aged 3-4 years old at the start of the term to take part in the sessions.

Term Time Football & Mini Tennis 

"On the ball after school!" - Get involved with football and mini tennis during school term time throughout the week at Talacre Community Sports Centre. Children will experience a range of fun based games and skills training to help improve their ability in football and playing mini tennis. All sessions are designed to be enjoyable and are led by qualified Football Association (FA) coaches and Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) coaches.
