“Local authorities can make a big difference to their local economies by supporting small firms to grow and create jobs.” – Federation of Small Businesses

Camden promotes council contracts and other opportunities to local businesses and works with partners to provide SMEs with the support they need to thrive.

Council contract opportunities

We currently promote council contracts to SMEs and pay our suppliers promptly. Last year 44% of our contract spend was with SMEs, of which 18% were Camden-based – a 50% increase on 2013-14. Sign up to CompeteFor to get alerts about new contracts.

Win new business with large buyers

We promote contract opportunities from the public sector and large developments to SMEs. We support ‘Meet the Buyer’ events to enable SMEs to meet large buyers.

Business support and access to finance

We work with partners to offer support to small businesses and access to finance.

We want to foster new enterprises and make sure Camden retains its edge as a home of innovative start-ups.

Reducing environmental impact

The Camden Climate Change Alliance helps businesses to reduce their carbon footprint, improve their environmental credentials and save money. Together we aim to reduce carbon emissions in the borough by 27% by 2017 and improve air quality.
