Diesel surcharge

From July 5 2018 we have amended ‘paid for parking’ charges to include an additional surcharge of up to 21.5% for diesel vehicles. We hope that this will help us to improve the air quality and contribute to addressing the health impact of vehicle emissions, by discouraging inessential car use and encouraging more sustainable modes of transport, such as walking, cycling and using public transport.

Why are we doing this?

  • Pollution from road traffic, is the biggest cause of poor air quality in Camden. That’s why we’re taking measures to tackle the problem. We are introducing parking surcharges for diesel vehicles and increasing on-street parking charges for short-stay journeys to help tackle air pollution and encourage more sustainable means of transport and use of cleaner vehicles.
  • 41% of car journeys in Camden are less than two kilometres and could be done by less polluting means; on foot, by bicycle or using public transport. From summer 2018 we are introducing parking surcharges for diesel vehicles and increasing on-street parking charges to help tackle air pollution and encourage more sustainable means of transport.
  • We’re committed to improving the air quality in Camden and reducing harmful pollutants. One way we plan to do this, is to reduce the number of vehicles based in the borough and encourage more sustainable ways of travel.
