Sinitta and Georgina Hale honour Camden’s longest serving foster carers at awards ceremony

The fantastic work of Camden’s foster carers has been recognised at a special awards ceremony.

Awards were presented by the star of several West End musicals, international pop star and Simon Cowell’s expert on the X Factor, Sinitta. BAFTA award winning actress Georgina Hale also attended to recognise and reward the borough’s foster carers for long service of five, 10 and 15 years.

The gathering was a unique opportunity for Camden to celebrate its foster carers’ hard work, enthusiasm and commitment to caring for children.

Sinitta, who herself adopted her two children a few years ago, said:

“I was delighted to meet Camden’s foster carers and to take part in a celebration of their hard work and dedication. Foster carers can really make a difference to the lives of children and young people. Events like this help to highlight the urgent need for more foster carers to come forward to bring a sense of family and inclusion to vulnerable children.

“All of the foster carers honoured at Camden’s event deserve our praise and our admiration and I am proud to be here to celebrate them.”

Georgina Hale added:

“I am delighted to be paying these foster carers the respect and recognition they deserve. Looking after children takes real energy and a very warm heart. I would like to personally thank every single one of them. I just hope that we continue to find homes and carers for all our vulnerable children and young people and to help them get the most out of their lives.”

Councillor Larraine Revah, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families, Camden Council, said:

“Offering a stable home environment to a child that may not have one is an act of pure selflessness and compassion. I am so impressed by what these foster carers have done and how many children and young people will have benefitted from their kindness.

“These people should not go unappreciated and I am very pleased to be here to honour them with these well deserved long service awards.”

The event formed part of national Foster Care Fortnight and took place in Camden Town on Friday 13 May.

In total, 36 awards were presented.
