Loans, donations, bequests and sale of documents

A significant proportion of our holdings come from organisations and individuals around the area. Some have given or sold their documents to us, but many others have retained ownership and simply lent their records so that they can be looked after by us and used by local historians and anyone else interested.

If you have documents you feel might be of interest for historical reasons, please do contact us using the details below. All documents are held under our standard Terms of Deposit.

Access to deposited records

Records will be made available to the public for research during the advertised opening hours of the Local Studies and Archives Centre. This is in accordance with the search room rules, and the principles and conditions of the Data Protection Act 1998, and the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Depositors may negotiate their own conditions of access with the Principal Officer, Local Studies and Archives.

Withdrawal of deposited records

A depositor may temporarily or permanently withdraw his/her records at any time, having given reasonable notice of their intent to the Record Office.
