Hampstead Town By-election

HAMPSTEAD TOWN BY ELECTION – THURSDAY 7 MAY 2015

Following the resignation of Councillor Simon Marcus there will be a By-election in the Hampstead Town ward. The by-election will take place on Thursday 7 May 2015, along side of the Parliamentary Election and the hours of polling will be 7am to 10pm.

Those who can vote are all UK, EU and Commonwealth citizens who will be on the electoral register for the ward as at Wednesday 29 April 2015. The deadline for new registrations is midnight on Monday 20th April 2015.

2. Candidates

Nominations of candidates commences on Tuesday 31 March 2015 and closes no later than 4pm on Thursday 9th April 2015.

Candidate’s details will be available after the close of nominations on Thursday 9th April 2015. The Statement of Person nominated is below.

3. Polling Stations

These will be

- AA   New End Primary School

- AB   Fitzjohn's Primary School

- AC   Ten Keats Grove (Former Heath Branch Library)

4. Poll Cards

Poll cards will be sent out through Royal Mail on Thursday 2 April 2015 to all eligible electors.

5.  Registering to vote

If you are not already registered to vote, the last date to register to vote for this By-election is by midnight on Monday 20th April 2015. Anyone wishing to register should go to the online registration portal www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

New Individual Electoral registration legislation became law in June 2014, anyone wishing to register to vote is now required to submit their National Insurance Number  and date of birth as part of their registration application.

Anyone who is not able to supply a National Insurance Number should contact Electoral Services on 020 7974 6000.

6. Postal Votes

Postal votes will be sent out on Thursday 23rd April 2015 by 1st Class mail. The last date to apply for, cancel or change a postal vote for the election is Tuesday 21st April 2015 by 5pm.

Postal vote application forms are available from the elections and voting web page following the link to registering to vote, or available by contacting Electoral services on 020 974 6000.

7. Proxy votes

The deadline for new proxy vote applications is Tuesday 28th April 2015 at 5pm.

Late applications for emergency proxy on medical grounds or employment can be submitted up to 5pm on polling day.

8. The Count

The count will take place at the Somers Town Community Sports Centre, Chalton Street on Thursday 7 May 2015 after the close of poll, along side the Parliamentary Count. The results will be shown on the website later that night.

9. Results

Following the count, results of the by-election will appear on the Hampstead by-election results page.
