Business waste legal responsibilities

Every establishment or business which produces waste has the legal responsibility for managing it properly. This is called your Waste Duty of Care. Failure to follow this can result in prosecutions.

Visit the Right Waste Right Place website to find out about your responsibilities.

Pay for rubbish and recycling disposal

Businesses must pay for the disposal of their rubbish and recycling. Businesses who illegally dump their rubbish can expect enforcement action to be taken against them, including fines.

Pay-as-you-go or contract services are available from a variety of suppliers. Camden's partner Veolia can arrange tailored rubbish and recycling contracts to meet your business needs.

This includes:

  • up to 3 scheduled collections each day
  • a range of different services and containers
  • an environmentally-friendly service

Check Time-Banded collection times

Time banded collections were introduced to:

•    improve street and environment quality
•    avoid obstruction on our streets
•    reduce the amount of illegally dumped rubbish
•    encourage and change behaviour towards waste and the environment

Businesses, and residents who live in flats above shops, in these areas must put their rubbish bags and containers on the road 30 minutes before the start of their collection time. Rubbish which is put out too early can be ripped into by foxes.
