Is adoption right for you?

Adopting a child is a life-changing experience and we are here to help you find out more about the process, whether you are in the early stages of considering adoption or have specific questions about your individual circumstances.

The first stage in the adoption journey is to attend one of our monthly information sessions.

To arrange an informal discussion about adoption please send an email to adoption@camden.gov.uk

Adoption support

When we have found an adoptive family for a child we draw up an adoption support plan. This gives details of the kind of services we will provide for the adoptive family to help them care for their child.

We offer adoption support services for:

  • counselling, advice and information
  • help with contact arrangements, including mediating with the birth family
  • support groups for adoptive families
  • training and workshops
  • financial support
  • therapeutic services for your child

More information about adoption support services can be found in our booklet Adoption Support Services for Adoptive Families. Contact the adoption team on the below details to obtain a copy

When does adoption support start?

Adoption support can start as soon as your child goes to live with you and can continue until your child is 18. This is even if the Adoption Order hasn’t been granted. As your child’s needs may change over time, the support plan is reviewed at least once a year. This is to make sure you are receiving the right kind of support.

Comments, complaints and suggestions

We want to provide the best possible service to prospective adopters. If an adopter or someone using (or planning to use) our service is unhappy with an aspect of our service, or a decision we make, they can make a complaint. Most people don’t like to complain but sometimes things do go wrong, or you may feel that there is a better way of doing them. If you tell us about it we can try to put things right.
