Coronavirus (COVID-19) - Building Control Inspection Policy Update

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic emergency, Camden Building Control has reviewed its Inspection Policy.  

To stick to the government guidelines on social distancing we have stopped site inspections. We are using an “evidence based approach”.  

This approach needs to be agreed with the appointed surveyor.  Please forward your pictures, videos and so on to You must give the address and reference of the project on the subject of the email for surveyor’s assessment.

With regards searches for plans and calculations, under the current global situation with COVID-19 it is unfortunate that we are not in the position to allow any visit to our premises to view the information hold for the property in question. Please also note that the information held cannot be shared electronically as it protected under Copyright Law.

Who should apply?

You should apply for our service if you are planning to make structural changes to a property. This might be removing a chimney breast, working on a loft conversion, adding an extension and so on. You might be a house owner, builder or leaseholder.

You will also need to apply for our service if you are an architect firm/builder/developer. You may be working on a new building, residential, commercial, educational, health, sports, leisure,  both retail and commercial projects. 

Local Authority Building Control (LABC)

We work in London, the surrounding areas and nationwide. This is thanks to the LABC (Local Authority Building Control) Partner Authority Scheme (PAS).

This means your company and the Camden Building Control team can enter into a partnership. The result will be a national team dealing with all the plan appraisal and approval. This saves resources and allows you to resolve building control matters with a dedicated team of officers in a fast track way.
