Camden's Housing Strategy 2005-2010

Following consultation with residents, partners and staff, Camden’s Housing Strategy 2005-2010 has been updated to reflect the Partnership Administration’s main priorities for housing as well as current local housing challenges.

During the 2007 review, we sharpened the strategy’s focus in six areas:

  • reducing overcrowding
  • increased supply of affordable housing
  • better use of our existing stock
  • energy efficiency
  • decent homes improvements
  • overcoming barriers to employment

Our refreshed strategy resets our sights for housing in Camden and raises our ambitions. It is a wide ranging document that details our plans for those in need of housing across Camden, including the homeless, those in private sector accommodation as well as council tenants and leaseholders. The strategy is supported by a detailed action plan that explains how we will deliver on our commitments.

The strategy is closely aligned to Camden Together: Camden’s Sustainable Community Strategy 2007-12 and makes a key contribution to our vision of being the `borough of opportunity'.

We will review the strategy every year and involve local residents, their representatives and other key stakeholders in the process.

We are keen to hear your views on what has been achieved since 2005 and welcome your feedback on questions such as:

  • Do you think the council should be doing more in specific areas or do you think that the priorities in the Housing Strategy are the right ones?
  • Would you like to be more involved in developing the Housing Strategy?
  • Would you like to be more involved in taking forward a particular area of work - for example, reviewing our tenant participation structures?
