The refurbishment of the site in Kentish Town is complete and open to the public. There are a number of new and enhanced features to allow you to recycle more items and to make your visit safer and more pleasurable.
What are the new features?
These features include:
- new materials that you can recycle at the site include; hard/rigid plastics i.e. garden furniture/toys, hardcore and rubble (six sacks maximum per customer), paper based food and liquid cartons i.e. tetra pak and all electrical goods
- new one way system to make the centre easier and safer to use
- new signage to make it easier for you to find the containers you need as well as providing you with feedback on how much the site recycles

General queries
What general household waste will the centre take?
We take all household waste from mattresses to wood and mobile phones apart from asbestos and other similarly hazardous materials.
The items that we accept for reuse and recycling are listed below. Please ensure that you separate as much of your waste as possible for recycling and re-use before you reach the site.
What materials do you accept for recycling and/or re-use?
- aluminum foil
- books
- cardboard
computers - including monitors, base stations, scanner, printers - cooking oil (residential only - no trade or commercial oil accepted)
- electrical goods - all electrical items including toasters, kettles and microwaves
- green waste
- glass (all colours)
- batteries - household and car
- light bulbs - fluorescent and energy saving
- metal
- mobile phones
- motor oil
- paper including yellow pages, envelopes, phone directories
- plastic drinks bottles, plastic bags
- plastics - dense/rigid only; including garden furniture, toys, piping (please note we do not except PVC window frames, food trays, yoghurt pots, wrapping, videos or any other plastic other than those listed above)
- printer and toner cartridges
- rubble and hardcore - clean bricks, stone, concrete, ceramics, paving slabs (please note that we do not except plasterboard, soil, tarmac or timber and a maximum of six sacks per customer is accepted)
- spectacles
- steel, aluminium and aerosol cans
- televisions
- textiles (clothes, shoes etc.)
- white goods (fridges, freezers, cookers, washing machine, dishwashers)
How do I use the centre?
If you can, separate your household rubbish before visiting the recycling centre. Ask any of our friendly staff to show you which containers to use.
Remember, any materials you put into the 'household waste' container will not be recycled and will be land filled or incinerated.
Can I recycle wood at the recycling centre?
Residents can bring wood to the centre to put in the bulk rubbish bin. At present it is not sent for recycling, but we are working towards finding a wood reprocessor for recycling.
Can I take items from the site?
All items deposited at the recycling centre are the property of Camden Council and must not be removed.
What happens to old computer equipment that residents deposit at the centre?
We use an Environment Agency registered company to reuse and recycle used computer equipment which ensures that the highest standards of environmental quality and data removal are enforced to ensure that all personal information on hard drives is removed.
Do you allow school/educational visits at the site?
Yes, after a period of refurbishment the site now has a brand-new state of the art waste and recycling education facility that holds up to 30 people. Please contact the centre to make a booking
We also offer tours of the working site itself - please contact us to check availability on these due to the refurbishment programme.
Will I be able to deliver furniture or other items for reuse at the centre?
At present we will be unable to take these items for reuse but following the final phase of redevelopment at the end of 2007 we will be looking to offer a furniture/white goods reuse scheme.
Can I smoke at the Regis Road Recycling Centre?
No, there are flammable items collected at the centre, therefore smoking is strictly prohibited in any part of the site.
Van and trade waste queries
What if I am coming by van?
You must report to a member of site staff on arrival and you will need to bring one form of identification with you on the day, as proof that you live in the borough.
Forms of ID that are accepted:
- council tax bill
- utility bill
- rent agreement
- bank statement
- mobile phone bill
Driving licences are not accepted:
Please note that once full redevelopment is completed we will operate additional enforcement measures for vans wishing to use the site.
Is trade/business waste accepted?
Under the terms of our operating licence we do not accept any form of trade or business waste. If we suspect that you are bringing trade waste to our site we will investigate you and you may be liable for prosecution.

If I accompany my builder to the site, with my building waste, will you let me in?
No, the waste remains trade waste.
I run my business from home, not from a commercial premises, does this mean my waste is trade?
Yes, the waste has been generated as a result of business activities, and not from the activities of the household.
Does the site accept asbestos?
If you have asbestos for removal call our household hazardous waste collection service on 020 7332 3433 to arrange for a collection.
