City farms

City farms are a pleasant way of bringing country life to the city.

Kentish Town City Farm is an educational and recreational project that developed out of the needs of local people. Entrance is free but we rely on visitors donations for the upkeep of the animals.

Children, young people and adults are actively encouraged to participate in all aspects of animal care, from mucking out to helping with feeds and site maintenance.

The farm has a stock of chickens, cows, ducks, geese, goats, horses, pigs and sheep. Some of the animals are rare breeds and they are used to being touched by everyone!

Located amidst dense local authority housing in North London the Farm covers four and half acres. It is a reasonable facsimile of a small farm or smallholding. As such, it has had a breeding programme over a number of years.

The Farm has a classroom, under 5's activity room, a training room, fitted kitchen, stables, gardens and seating areas. It also has disabled access including hard paths and decks throughout.

The basis and thinking behind the programme is wholly educational. The farm is not a zoo for farm animals, nor is it a museum piece. The primary aim of the farm is to address the educational and recreational needs of local people with special emphasis being placed on children and young people coming from economic or socially disadvantaged backgrounds and young people with special needs.

Adult volunteers

The farm welcomes people of all ages and abilities to come and get involved with a whole range of jobs.

In return we offer a safe and fun environment and a great opportunity to meet new people and learn new skills.
