Mayor of Camden opens BT Tower charity climb
Date:
The Mayor of Camden, Councillor Abdul Quadir opened a charity BT Tower climb on Saturday 24 September by cheering on the first teams to set off.
More than 70 people climbed the 842 steps to the top of the tower to raise money for Action on Hearing Loss, the Mayor’s chosen charity for 2011/12.
Climbers included teams from PH Media and Ernst and Young and are expected to raise £12,000.
The Mayor said: “I’d really like to congratulate everyone who took part in this event. It was a fantastic effort and it’s very encouraging to see so many people willing to take part and raise money to support such important work.
“I chose Action on Hearing Loss as my charity for 2011/12 because I am hard of hearing myself, and understand the issues that deaf and hard of hearing people face and the importance of the support that Action on Hearing Loss provides. I am working with Action on Hearing loss this year and we aim to set up a ‘Hear for You’ project in the borough.”
Shane Fuller, a member of the Ernst and Young team, who completed the climb in six minutes 53 seconds said:
"It was a great honour climbing for Action for Hearing Loss. The hard work they put in to make the day a success is testament to the hard work they put in all year round, giving back to those with hearing difficulties.
“I hope to be involved in more activities to raise money and awareness for such a worthwhile charity."
