The following summary provides key findings from an evaluation of the CamdenTalks citizens panel, September 2004 - October 2005. It addresses the degree to which panel activities are contributing to service improvement and decision making, the extent to which the panel engages with a representative cross section of local people and the extent to which it promotes active citizenship.

Review of Your Camden and Handy guide to services focus group

This report presents a summary of the main findings from two focus groups that were held in March 2009 to discuss proposals to relaunch the council’s magazine Your Camden and distribute a new Handy guide to services.

Local Development Framework workshop

The following report presents the key findings of a one-day workshop held in November 2008 on Camden’s Local Development Framework Core Strategy 2010–2025.

Review of Area Forums focus group

This summary presents the key findings of focus groups held in November 2008, which formed part of the review of Area Forums.

Equalities focus group

This summary presents the key findings of focus groups conducted with Camden Talks panel members, which looked at Camden’s Equality Scheme 2009-2012.

PLE focus group

The following report presents the key findings of focus groups conducted with Camden Talks panel members, businesses and residents, which looked at the permissions, licensing and enforcement (PLE) services. From September 2008.

Camden Town redevelopment

The following report was produced by the Planning Department after a focus group with Camden Talks members to discuss the redevelopment of Camden Town tube.

It refers to the key issues that were raised as part of the first stage of developing a planning brief for the site.

Community safety

The following report provides a summary of the key findings from the post-audit consultation on community safety, which included three workshops with members of CamdenTalks, October - December 2004. The findings will help to inform the Crime and Disorder Strategy (2005-8).

Redevelopment of King's Cross

The following report provides a summary of the key findings from two workshops held with members of CamdenTalks in October 2004. They focus on the future redevelopment of King's Cross.

Parking enforcement

The following report is based on survey and focus group work conducted by independent researchers MORI about perceptions of parking enforcement in Camden, in October 2004.

Housing priorities

The following report provides a summary of key findings from a workshop held with members of CamdenTalks in March 2005. It aimed to establish what priorities for housing in Camden should be in 2005 - 2010.

Council reception points

The following report outlines the main findings of a mystery shopping exercise that was carried out in October and November 2004 by thirty CamdenTalks members. The mystery shopping tested the quality of public reception points at council-run buildings such as the Town Hall, district housing offices and leisure centres. CamdenTalks members assessed both the quality of customer service they received from council staff and the state of the actual reception, in particular, ‘accessibility’ for disabled people.

The report is quite large so we have divided it into two documents to make it easier and quicker to download.

Housing repairs and parking services

The following report outlines the findings from four focus groups that took place in May 2007, which engaged Camden panel members in a discussion about council customer services, examining what aspects they were satisfied and dissatisfied with. The focus groups then explored people’s views on how the services might be improved in the future. Two group discussions focused specifically on the council’s housing repairs service and two groups looked at the council’s parking service.

Revenues Service

The following report outlines the key findings of a mystery shopping exercise of the council’s Revenues Service that took place between April 2007 and July 2007. Camden panel members posed as shoppers to test the customer service provided by Revenues. The main aims of the exercise were to investigate how customers view the Revenues’ customer service when responding to enquiries by phone, letter and in person, identify areas of good practice and consider where improvements might be made.

2007/2008 Budget

The following report outlines the key findings from a discussion day held on 14 October 2006 to find out what Camden panel members’ views were on the 2007/08 budget and council tax levels.

The discussion day was intended to get a feel for what participants think are the most important areas for the council to consider when thinking about budget planning, to tease out reactions to a number of revenue and capital budgetary issues currently facing the council and to engage a group of residents in some of the thinking which the Council undertakes when setting the budget.

Community Strategy activities

The following report outlines the findings from a workshop that took place in June 2005. Around 50 CamdenTalks members met to discuss dilemmas and challenges that face Camden over the next five years. The workshop is part of many activities that will help shape the development of our new Community Strategy 2006-2011.

Watch a short video to see footage and extracts from the June workshop. Around 50 panel members spent the day with Council staff, including Dame Jane Roberts, and representatives from the Police and local health services.

The following report outlines the findings from an online survey and series of discussion forums that took place in July and August 2005, with almost 150 CamdenTalks members. Building on a community strategy workshop in June 2005, discussions covered the following key areas: the environment and climate change; quality of life and local development; community safety; the economy; and health. The online consultation is part of many activities that will help shape the development of our new Community Strategy 2006-2011.
