Conservation and urban design
Camden has a rich heritage of historic buildings and open spaces as well as lots of exciting new buildings.
Conservation areas cover over 50% of the borough and there are more than 5600 listed buildings in Camden.
The areas around Kings Cross and Camden Town have a unique industrial history and will develop into two of the most important areas in London within the next few years.
Architecture and design play an important role in the cultural life of the borough with the Bartlett School of Architecture at University College, London and the Architectural Association being based in Camden along with 7% of all the architects in the UK.
We work to conserve what is best in Camden's architecture, streets and spaces, and to promote good practice and quality design in new building and refurbishment schemes. We also provide specialist advice on many aspects of environmental design and enhancement.
