Out of school learning

Our out of school learning strategy aims to:

‘Support the achievement and personal development of children and young people in Camden’

Out of school learning is a planned activity that takes place outside school curriculum time, either

  • before school
  • during lunch or break time
  • after school
  • at the weekend or
  • during the school holidays.

Participation is voluntary and activities usually run at no charge to the pupil.

We offer:

  • study
  • extra curricular support and learning
  • club type opportunities.

We provide children and young people access to a variety of new opportunities, to extend and enrich their wider learning experiences. Out of school learning forms an integral component of the learning cycle, with significant benefits to children, parents, schools and providers. Out of school hours learning takes place in a variety of different settings, in:

  • schools
  • community centres
  • playcentres
  • youth projects
  • arts organisations
  • public buildings.

Individual projects and programmes produce a wide range of resource material. Camden Learning Education Arts Programme (LEAP ) produces a termly newsletter. Pupils also produce anthologies, newsletters, scripts and stories, which are all available on request. A guide to practice also provides examples of a range of different activities that take place across the borough.
