Older voices

Older voices is a programme in the Promoting Independence Group. It was initially funded by the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund between April 2004 and March 2006 and is currently part funded by the Local Area Agreement

The aim of the programme is to involve more older people in neighbourhood renewal and to raise the profile of those already involved.

The project works to ensure that the views and experiences of older people are valued and influence the work of service providers and policy makers.

The Older Voices team works with older people at neighbourhood level, but also supports the Quality of Life Panel and the Reference Group, which are both borough wide forums.

We also support people of different ages to develop intergenerational work together and coordinate the Camden’s Publications Review Panel (CAMPROP).

Older Voices supports several projects that actively involve older people across the borough.

Older Voices works with statutory, community and voluntary sector organisations to enhance the involvement of older people in neighbourhood renewal areas.

In 2005, Older Voices produced a report on its work up to that date called "Camden Older People Have Their Say":

Work has also been carried out specifically around the involvement of older people from black and minority ethnic groups and older people with communication and mobility difficulties.

The final recommendations of this work can be found in "In our own words: older people's recommendations to make participation easier":
