Introduction
Town centres play an important role in the borough, over and above the "traffic" function of the roads that pass through them. As such, Transport for London (TfL) is providing funding to improve the street environment of these areas as places to live, shop and do business.
These funds are in addition to the Council’s own investment and funding from the private sector and other sources. It should be noted that competition for the TfL funding throughout London is particularly fierce and is limited to areas listed as Town Centres in the Mayor of London’s London Plan.
In Camden we have ongoing projects in:
- Kentish Town (District Centre)
- Chalk Farm (Part of the Camden Town Major Centre)
- Tottenham Court Road (Part of the West End International Centre)
Further information about Town Centres in Camden, including the recently completed investment programme in Kilburn, can be found in Section 5.16.2 of the council’s Local Implementation Plan
