Travel advice
Transport for London (TfL) are expecting six weeks of severe travel disruptions across the transport network. It’s important that you plan ahead for any journeys you need to make around the capital.
Be prepared
Queues at stations will be much longer than usual, so top up or buy your Oyster card in advance.
Getting to events
- Check out information on the London 2012 website on travelling to 2012 events.
There is also a Spectator Journey Planner available online to help you find the fastest way to events.
Which areas of Camden will be most effected?
The south of the borough will experience the most impact during 2012, around King’s Cross, Euston, Bloomsbury and Holborn.
- Likely disruptions in these areas are outlined on the London 2012 website, (refer to ‘Area 6: King’s Cross’).
How else will 2012 impact travel in Camden?
- increased congestion and possible delays to accessing the public transport network at hot spots:
- Euston,
- St Pancras,
- King’s Cross,
- Holborn
- Tottenham Court Road
- increased congestion on parts of the public transport network serving Camden; in particular the Central and Jubilee lines, which are key routes to the Olympic Park
- the Olympic (and Paralympic) Route Network (ORN) will enable athletes, officials and media to travel as efficiently as possible to various sites across the capital. This will require some road closures – around Russell Square – and will displace traffic onto other parts of the road network. See the Transport for London website for details of the ORN.
Green travel options
We are taking part in the Legible London project, which is a new pedestrian way-finding system to help people walk around the Capital. In Camden the project is currently providing signage from Covent Garden to Russell Square, and there are plans to extend to King's Cross and beyond.
This project will enable tourists to find their way around better and so access new areas of Camden that they would miss if they were not travelling by foot. It also promotes walking, which is a healthier and greener travel alternative.
Another green travel benefit to complement this is the London Cycle Hire Scheme that we are part of, which offers cycle hire across the capital.
