Sustainability Task Force

The Sustainability Task Force is an all-party body of councillors concerned about climate change and the end of cheap oil ('Peak Oil'). The Task Force supports Councillor Alexis Rowell, Camden's Eco Champion.

Meetings

Meetings start at 6.30pm in Camden Town Hall, and are open to all, so please come along.

The Camden and Islington Passivhaus Conference which was organised by Cllr Rowell, was a huge success. The Task Force has been pushing for the Passivhaus standard to be made a requirement in Camden's new planning rules, the Local Development Framework. www.cuttingthecarbon.co.uk/news

Infinite growth on a finite planet is impossible, as EF Schumacher wrote in “Small is Beautiful” in 1973. What’s more growth doesn’t make us happier. Research shows that happiness in the industrialised world has not risen since the 1960s. Bluntly – having more stuff no longer makes us happier.

We’ll be asking whether every Camden Council policy and report should be tested against an indicator comprising ecological footprint (one planet living), wellbeing (happiness) and resilience (the ability of communities to withstand external shocks like Peak Oil).
