Parent council
What is the Parent Council?
It is a place where you can:
- influence Camden Council priorities and services
- gain valuable information
- discuss issues
- share your views
- share and design information
- organise events and meetings
- run community research and focus groups.
The meetings are informal, relaxed and more like workshops. Discussions take place in small groups on issues that matter to parents such as activities for young people, crime, housing and education.
The meetings are led by parents and carers who set the agenda, chair the
meetings and decide how the meetings are run.
There is a Celebrating Parents event in October where the Parent Council chair nominations are put forward.
Why should I get involved?
We value what dads, mums and carers have to say. You can be involved at different levels. Just come and listen, give your views or take up the opportunity to:
- meet other parents/carers
- be part of a group
- give feedback on local issues
- receive free training such as presentation skills, journalism and facilitation skills
- find our more about how your local authority works
- influence decision making,
- be creative, be heard and valued
- go to conferences and do presentations
- feed into Camden’s strategic groups.
Who is it for?
The Parent Council is for all dads, mums and carers in the borough of Camden who have children 0-19 years old (or up to 25 if your child has learning difficulties, disabilities or both).
You can either come along as:
- a representative from your child’s school
- a local or borough-wide parent or carers group representative
- a parent or carer
When and where do we meet?
We meet regularly on Saturdays in child friendly settings across the borough of Camden.
What happens to my children?
There is an all age crèche with organised activities like crafts and cookery. Alternatively your children can stay with you.
There is a free lunch for all after the meeting.
