Street and transport improvements

Camden has a five-year programme of street and transport improvements over the period 2005/06 to 2010/11, called the Local Implementation Plan (LIP). The plan sets out the context of traffic and transport in Camden, the broad objectives of the borough, and the individual programmes and schemes that make up the proposed investment.

The plan must demonstrate how the Mayor’s Transport Strategy (2001) is being delivered at a local level including supporting services directly run by the Mayor of London, through Transport for London, such as buses and the Underground. Camden’s LIP was approved by the Council’s Executive in October 2005 and then by the Mayor of London in March 2006.

Every year the Council produces a LIP Annual Progress Report with a detailed breakdown of requests for Government funding, delivered via Transport for London, to supplement Camden funding. Individuals and groups can make Traffic and Road Safety Scheme Requests online and where possible the Council will seek funding to take these requests forward through this process.

The LIP is a very large document, consisting of two main volumes, with three freestanding documents: the Road Safety Plan (Chapter 6), the Interim Parking and Enforcement Plan (Chapter 7) and the School Travel Plan Strategy (Chapter 8).
