SchoolPlus Bus
SchoolPlus Bus
The SchoolPus scheme aims to help reduce car use during the ‘school run’ and thereby reduce congestion. Additional benefits will include an improvement in the air quality in the vicinity of participating schools.
This is a pilot scheme involving two schools in Hampstead; St. Mary’s and St. Anthony’s. Children are taken to school using a fully accessible mini-bus.
Pupils at St. Anthony’s are taken to school and then home again at the end of the school day. Whereas St. Mary’s pupils are at present receiving only a school-bound service.
A recent customer satisfaction survey indicates that the service is very popular with pupils, parents and Head Teachers.
How to join the scheme
An application form can be obtained on request by contacting the Accessible Transport Service on 020 7974 1456. Alternatively you can download an application form or request a form online.
If you have asked the Accessible Transport Service to send you an application form, then please allow reasonable time for Royal Mail to deliver the documents.
Please note that all applicants need to provide proof of permanent residence in London Borough of Camden.
The application form needs to be completed by the child’s parents or guardian and sent to the school marked for the attention of the head teacher.
Eligibility
The SchoolPlus scheme is currently operating as a pilot at two schools in Hampstead and remains under review. The only eligibility criterion at present is that an applicant must be a pupil at either St. Mary’s or St. Anthony’s.
Cost to user
The service is not free and parents pay a small contribution for the service depending on the school that their child attends and if an escort is required.
How to use the service
The buses stop at scheduled places and run to a timetable. Parents and guardians will be advised of their child's pick-up time and location.
More information about the SchoolPlus scheme can be obtained from the Head Teachers of participating schools and from the Accessible Transport Service (telephone: 020 7974 1456).
SchoolPlus renewal
The SchoolPlus membership does not have an expiry date. However every couple of years, members of the scheme are required to renew their membership by completing a renewal application form. The renewal process enables the council to establish if existing members of the scheme are still eligible.
The renewal application form will be sent to all members of the scheme. The form needs to be completed and returned to the child’s school marked for the attention of the Head Teacher.
