Olympics news is just the ticket for Camden schools
Date: Friday 17th February 2012
Schools in Camden are celebrating news that they have received free tickets to the Olympics. Schools across London who joined the Get Set network will share 125, 000 tickets.
The Get Set network is a special community of schools and colleges which are demonstrating a commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic values of respect, friendship, equality, excellence, inspiration, courage and determination.
The scheme means that around one in eight schoolchildren aged between 10 to 18 will go to the Games.
Across Camden 69 schools and colleges will share an allocation of 2212 tickets.
The tickets will be roughly split between Olympic football, the other 25 Olympic sports and the Paralympics, but will differ between each school.
Jemima Wade, Head of Argyle Primary school in King’s Cross, said:
We’ve been doing a lot of Olympics related activities in our school so the pupils are already very excited. Our sport day this year is going to be an Olympics themed one, and we’re involving a wider range of activities as a way to engage and inspire more of our pupils. We are also part of the Camden School Dance Festival with dance routines based on countries competing in the Games.”
Councillor Tulip Siddiq, Camden Council Cabinet member for Culture and physical activity, said:
“Now that there is less than six months to go to the Olympics it’s fantastic that a lot of Camden schoolchildren will actually get the chance to see their home city host the greatest show on earth.
“Getting the chance to attend the Games is something that young people will remember for the rest of their lives.
