Once in a lifetime chance for Camden young Olympic volunteers
Date: 19/10/11
Young people are being given the chance to volunteer as a Young Games Maker for the London 2012 Olympics. Camden Council is calling on its 16 to 18 year olds to grab the chance to be part of history.
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) wants teams of dedicated and passionate young people to apply to be Young Games Makers.
Over 2,000 young people from across the UK are needed to carry out roles such as Field of Play Assistants, where duties include helping athletes transport their kit to and from the fields of play. Other roles include Technology Print Distribution Team Members who will circulate athlete competition results to those who need them.
Applications are open until midnight on 31 October and must be made by team leaders from organisations such as youth or sports clubs, community and volunteering groups, and schools and colleges who are part of the Get Set Network. Applications can be submitted through: www.london2012.com/young-games-maker
Volunteers must be aged 16 or over on 1 July 2012 and under 18 on 1 January 2012.
Councillor Tulip Siddiq, Cabinet member for Culture, said:
“This is a chance for young people in Camden to play a role in the world’s greatest sporting event and to get experience of volunteering at the same time.
“Camden has a great mix of young people from a range of communities and backgrounds and it would be great if these could be represented amongst the volunteers next year.”
