Fun day celebrates activities and services for families

Date:   19/10/11

Activities and services for families are being celebrated at this year’s Camden Parents Together event.

The annual event, aimed at all families in the borough, will take place on Saturday 22 October from 1pm to 5pm at Haverstock School.

During the day, which is organised and run by Camden's Parent Council, there will be a range of fun attractions and activities for families, including:

* clay modelling, family learning, poster competition and face painters;
* Capoiera, Glee performance and workshop;
* Irish dancing, massage and reflexology, baby massage;
* refreshments, health area, cheerleaders, climbing wall;
* graffiti t-shirts, bouncy castle and table tennis;
* Arsenal football coaching and football tricks, Swing Patrol dance classes and table tennis;
* Information stalls and consultations on services, including play.

Formerly known as Celebrating Parents, the event usually attracts more than 1,000 parents and children. It is organised by Camden’s Parent Council, which was formed by Camden Council five years ago to ensure parents have a say on how services are provided for their children. Parents interested in joining the Parent Council can phone 020 7974 7249 or find out more on the day.

There will be at least 30 stalls providing a range of information for families.

Kerrol Alonga, Parent Council member and chair of the Camden Parents Together committee, said: “The Parent Council proudly presents our 6th annual family fun event, focusing especially on parents and carers during Parent Week. We have teamed up with the youth service, including the COO-L project, to run a spectacular event. There is something for the whole family to enjoy. Camden Parents Together is an opportunity for local families to come together to have fun and help shape Camden's vision for the future."

Councillor Larraine Revah, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families, Camden Council, said: “This event has been going from strength to strength over the years and this year will be no exception. It is great that so many of our local parents are interested in getting involved in local decision-making through the Parent Council as well as finding out what’s available in the borough for families. I would encourage all our local families to come along. Thank you to the volunteer parents from the Parent Council who work so hard to make this event happen.”

Photographers are welcome to attend the event on Saturday 22 October, from 1 to 5pm, at Haverstock School.
