Camden’s parks and open spaces to be awash with colour
Date:
Camden Council’s parks team have successfully planted over 50,000 bulbs and will be following this up with community planting days across October.
A total of 53,100 bulbs have been planted over 460 square metres in Russell Square, Goldington Crescent, Purchese Street and Tavistock Square.
A mix of daffodils and hyacinths were planted in the squares while different coloured Naricissi have been planted in open spaces. These will give Camden’s parks and open spaces a splash of colour in late winter and spring of 2012.
To encourage the community to take part, the Council will be supporting community planting. A range of dates are available for residents to take part in making a positive impact on their own areas with planting sessions at:
* Tavistock Square on 12 October from 2 to 4 pm;
* Maygrove Peace Gardens and Whitfield Gardens during the half-term holidays;
* Fortune Green open space and Regent Square on 29 October.
Councillor Tulip Siddiq, Cabinet Member for Culture, said:
“Our parks and open spaces are an oasis of calm in the busy city and I’m delighted that we have been able to plant so many bulbs this year. I can’t wait to see the explosion of colour as they bloom.”
“Our community planting sessions really do bring like-minded people together, making a positive impact on the areas where they live and I would encourage as many people as possible to come along and take part.”
