School places for children at Camden Courthope Education Centre
Date: 27/1/09
The governing body at Primrose Hill primary school last night agreed to accept the class of children currently attending the temporary education centre set up in church hall in Courthope Road NW3.Improvements to the school will allow an additional ‘bulge’ class to be accommodated within the school building and additional teaching posts are being funded.
Councillor Andrew Mennear, Executive Member for Schools, said:
“Camden Courthope Education Centre was set up in response to an urgent demand for extra primary school places for reception age children. It was always a temporary measure. We promised to offer pupils places at one school so that the class can stay together.
“Primrose Hill is an outstanding and popular school and we are pleased that the head and governing body have agreed to accommodate an extra class. Parents are still free to apply for a place at any primary school of their choice if they feel that this would be a better option for their child.”
Head teacher at Primrose Hill, Paul Campbell, said:
“We’re happy to welcome the children from Courthope into our school. These children need to be part of a school community and our school will also benefit from improvements aimed at increasing community use of our buildings. We feel it’s a win-win situation.”
Councillor Janet Grauberg, Executive Member for Children and Young People, said:
“We're committed to finding a long-term solution to the shortage of primary places for children in the north west of the borough through expanding existing schools and, if possible, providing a new school, but this new class at Primrose Hill is a really excellent short-term solution."
