Date: 25/10/06
A CAMDEN primary school is a "happy secure place where pupils thrive", resulting in above average standards, inspectors have found.
Inspectors from Ofsted found that pupils at Our Lady's Roman Catholic Primary School do well irrespective of their background and ability because of the strong leadership and management team driving up standards.

Ofsted rated Our Lady's Roman Catholic Primary School as 'good' in terms of its overall effectiveness, during an inspection at the school in Pratt Street, NW1 carried out 21-22 September.
During the visit inspectors found that "children make a good start in nursery and reception class" with many pupils achieving at the higher levels of the national curriculum by the end of Year 6.
Pupils are "taught well" and "clear explanations by teachers of what they want pupils to learn, along with good support from teaching assistants, motivates and helps pupils to make good progress," the report said.
Inspectors discovered that "teachers ensure the needs of different groups of pupils are catered for effectively and this also helps pupils especially those learning English as an additional language or learning difficulties achieve well."
The inspectors had particular praise for the standard of care, guidance and support provided for pupils. The report said: "The school provides good care for all pupils. As a result, it is a happy and secure place where pupils thrive."
In addition, the school places great store on pupil's development of healthy lifestyle so that they choose healthy options for lunch and they all look after themselves well, the report found.
The school, which is a Roman Catholic faith school, provides children with regular opportunities for reflection and to apply their faith in everyday situations, which is "helping them develop a sense of values, principles and beliefs that inform their perspective in life."
Headteacher Deirdre Finan said: "We are delighted with the recognition by Ofsted of the quality of teaching and learning at our school.
"It's a real credit to our staff and all of their hard work.
"I was also really pleased the inspectors saw what a happy place Our Lady's's is. We are all committed to building on what we have achieved so far to create even better opportunities for our pupils."
Cllr Andrew Mennear, Camden Council's Executive Member for Schools, said: "This is a great achievement that reflects the commitment and enthusiasm of the headteacher, her staff, the governing body and, of course, the pupils. It's an excellent report which clearly outlines how the school is helping children progress and reach their full potential."
