Photo opportunity: Re-opening of Pond Square public toilets
Date: 16/06/2006
Highgate residents will be flushed with pleasure to hear that the public toilets in Pond Square are set to re-open this weekend (17 June).
The public conveniences will be re-opened on Saturday by Cllr Mike Greene, Executive Member for Environment, Camden Council. The toilets will be ready for people to use in time for the Highgate Festival, a popular community event, likely to be attended by hundreds of local residents on Saturday.
Cllr Mike Greene, Executive Member for Environment, Camden Council said:
"Camden Council has listened to residents and decided to re-open these toilets because local people told us that they are a valuable service. These facilities will now be publicly available right in the heart of the local community, close to shops and transport, for everyone to use."
Gordon Forbes, Chairman of The Highgate Society, which has campaigned actively for the toilets to be re-opened, said:
"We are delighted that Camden Council has made this sensible decision. Re-opening the toilets is important not only for local people but also for the many visitors coming to see the area's attractions including Highgate Cemetery."
The toilets will be open seven days a week from 7am - 7pm Monday to Friday and 8am - 8pm Saturday and Sunday.
Camden Council also plans to re-open the public toilets at West End Green in July.
