Physical activity peer activator (PAPA) project
The project was designed to increase the number of Camden residents engaging with the outdoor gyms by recruiting, training and deploying volunteer PAPAs to:
- engage with and facilitate their peers in the community to use the outdoor gyms.
- encourage safe exercise in a way that will achieve mental, physical and social benefits.
- encourage communities in areas of health inequality to become more active by making use of Camden’s outdoor spaces (particularly the outdoor gyms)
The first PAPA project ran from autumn 2009 to spring 2010 as a partnership project involving: Camden Active Health Team, YMCAfit, Jubilee Halls, and NHS Camden.
The Project was funded by the Transformation Fund as part of the Learning revolution, an initiative from NIACE (National Institute for Continuing Adult Education).
